is completely humbling, even mortifying, because He knows absolutely everything about me. The omniscience of God is immensely comforting, even reassuring, because He knows absolutely everything about me.
In Psalm 139, David writes of the perfect knowledge of God in words that stand apart from all other things.
"O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.(Verses 1-4)
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.(Verses 23-24)
God requires my repentance. He grants His forgiveness because of His completed justification. He reminds me of His sanctifying work in my life in these verses. His mercy is amazing, and His grace all-sufficient. Being properly humbled, even mortified by His words alone. Being rightly comforted, always reassured by His words alone. Why would I look at any others?
Exactly.
There is nothing He has missed, no slight injustice, no nasty retort, no deed done in secret. He sees and knows it all. "See if there is any offensive way in me..." - of course there is. That's why it's so mortifying. Sinful humans - oh yes. Saved by the blood - yes. Praise Him.
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent! God sees everything....reminds me of our catechisms with our younger children...so simple,but so true. That reverence awe towards a holy God makes us want to live rightly before Him. I fail so often, but we are saved and made right...to the praise of His glorious praise!
