bucket lists right now. I have not seen the movie The Bucket List.
The title issues from things you want to do in your life before you "kick the bucket." I'd prefer calling it a Daisy List because I like daisies better than buckets, but I was not consulted in this matter.
I am consulting with you though on what sorts of things are on your bucket lists. I'm interested in the whys as much as the whats. Here are some of mine:
1) I want to serve as an American Red Cross volunteer with a food van where we drive into areas hit by disasters and feed those in crisis. During the 1994 Missouri floods, I had the opportunity to make pallets of sandwiches for just such a couple who were serving in this way. They were both retired and had gone to volunteering for the ARC. They lived in their little food van, a glorified lunch cart RV sort of thing and drove into areas serving drinks and sandwiches and basic first aid.
I went home and told Husband that I had discovered our retirement plan. He wasn't nearly as impressed with the idea as I was. However, since that time he has delighted in reminding me, when I refuse to go camping, that my retirement ideas sound very much like camping. It will all depend on the RV.
2) I also want to return to school and get my Masters. I don't know yet in what field. I have a Bachelor's in Political Science and English, but I may choose a whole different field for a Masters. I would love to be a professional student so I figure returning to a university at some point would give me the opportunity to study all those things that I thought I didn't have time for when I was in college. For that matter, maybe it would give me the chance to study again all those things in college I was supposed to be studying.
3) I want to go on an Alaska cruise. Maybe this isn't a huge bucket list item for you. For me though, to whom the idea of a cruise at all is anathema, it's a major event. I am not at all fond of being on a relatively small boat in an ocean of relatively lots of water without quick access to a bigger area of land. Getting past those issues to even take a cruise will make this a true bucket list item.
4) I want to be an extra in a big time movie. A friend of mine did this for a while during college to make some extra money. I'm not so concerned about the money as seeing this as a way to get paid for people watching. Can you imagine? Being listed in the credits as Woman #5 or Lady #23? I think it would be a hoot.
I have been warned by "those who seem to know" that in reality it's tedious, boring, and often non-air conditioned work. That's okay. It's on my bucket list.
So there's some of my inner thoughts. Or not. I also have things on there like traveling the world and seeing the remaining wonders of the world, finding a cure for wrinkles, and swimming with dolphins. These four though stood out to me today. And a blogger always shares.
Let me know in the comments the what and why of one of your bucket list items. If I were a good blogger I'd probably have a Mr. Linky set up and whatnot, but I'm not worrying about that. And I haven't put it on my bucket list yet either.
I would love to experience grand-children before I kick the bucket. I'd like to volunteer in a hospital to hold and rock babies. I'm not into dare devil experiences. I like the kind of experiences you walk casually to and through. Feet on the ground, generally not in a boat :0)
ReplyDeleteElle,
I'm recommending a new blog to homeschoolers on my blog today. check it out when you get a chance.
I want to move my family away from the city.
ReplyDeleteTake a dancing class....I haven't thought through a real list yet, but I know that would be on it.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this since I first read it here. All I can think of is wanting to see my children grown and settled and then see my grandchildren for some expanse of years. :) At one time I would have had writing a novel on the list, but I don't know if I have one in me.
