Just suppose this...

Suppose that Jesus Christ in Scripture has identified Himself as the Word of God. "The WORD became flesh and made his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the ONE and ONLY, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14

Suppose that God's Word commanded you to study His Word.  "Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them." Proverbs 4:5

Suppose that God's Word commanded you to study Jesus Christ.  "If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own." John 7:17

Just suppose these things to be true.

Suppose that you chose not to study God's Word or even that you chose not to study certain parts of God's Word.  "My people are fools; they do not know me.  They are senseless children; they have no understanding.  They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good."  Jeremiah 4:22

Suppose that you chose not to study Jesus Christ as He is revealed in the Word.  "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him."  John 1:10

Just suppose these things to be true.

Would you then suppose that Jesus Christ was talking about you when He said, "So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven."  Matthew 10:32-33

Just suppose.

  1. Just suppose...that there would be a revival in the hearts of Christians to read God's word. The world would be turned upside down.

Until that day - probably in heaven - we Christians who do spend daily time in God's word need to just keep pressing on and encouraging others to come along with us.

    I liked this post.

  2. This reminds me of that Nicole Nordeman song: "What If"

  3. Okay. I get it.

This is literally the 10th thing in TWO DAYS that has pricked my conscience about my lackadaisical approach to the Holy Scriptures.

I am convinced, and by the grace and provision of God, I will be transformed.

  4. Suppose we learned to live not by bread alone, but by every word of God...

Suppose we approached His Word with the same desperation as hunger and thirst...

Suppose we believed His Word was living and powerful and would accomplish His purposes...

    May it be so!

    Great post!

  5. Well put. Can't get much clearer than the Word of God...

    Thank you for the awakening!

  6. Well said. What a sobering reminder of where our priorities should lie.

  7. Just suppose. Oh wow, Elle, I love this post! No "supposing"'s all right there in the Word!

  8. Wonderful post, Elle. May it take root in all our hearts!
