and that means binge blogging. Pull out your chips and dip.
Our pollen count here in the Georgia state is out the wazoo and yoo-hoo right now, and yet, the idea of planting and growing things is unmistakably tantalizing. As I'm writing, Husband is outside roto-tilling up an old blackberry patch to make it into a vegetable patch. Our previous garden patch suffered the positive effect of shade trees we intended for the house finally growing up and giving us shade (everyone cheer for lower A/C costs!), but negatively blocking out the much needed sun for said garden. The end result is some yard rearranging to accommodate the new landscape plan. Outdoor gardening has never been my avocation, but I married a man with 10 green fingers, and I am thankful to share the fruit and vegetables that his work produces.
Are any of you gardeners? If so, what are you putting in these days?
Secondly, last night Husband and I were watching the late 80's movie, Young Guns. Remember that one, with all those Brat Packers? Two things occurred. Husband asked what this movie was about because apparently he had NEVER seen it. I was astonished, thinking shallowly, of course, that everyone had seen this movie if alive during the 80's. I thought it was a rite of passage. I should not have been surprised at all because Husband has also never seen ET. I'm still processing this one. I love those moments in marriage, and we're going on 18 years, when just as you begin to think you know almost all things about your spouse, and he up and surprises you with life trivia.
The second thing that happened was that while I was trying to describe what the movie was about, I realized that I remembered precious little about the movie. In fact, I kept waiting for the movie to come to a part that I clearly remembered to the point of even knowing what would happen next. It never came. I began to wonder if I had actually seen the movie. Finally, at the end, and due to an advertisement for Young Guns II, I realized that I was confusing the two movies. Is this a perk of nearing 40, that what you once saw and enjoyed, or thought you enjoyed, is all new again two decades later?
What movies would you consider rite of passage? And which ones have you not seen? Which ones would you like to see?
More to come.
I won't go into my long list of 80's favorites, but a cult classic around here (including a whole slew of friends who can all quote directly from this sad movie) is Better Off Dead with John Cusack. We own it. On VHS.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have never seen ET. Sorry to make you process more.
I have never seen either of the Young Guns!
ReplyDeleteLet's see - rite of passage movie . . . Dirty Dancing?! That was the first racy movie I ever saw. I was at a slumber party and definitely way too young to have been watching it.
LOVE Better Off Dead!!
Better Off Dead was good but One Crazy Summer was more better (guy movie style) albeit less well known.
