There are some things that...

I'm not willing to pass up at least trying to win. The newest giveaway by Kim C. over at Life in a Shoe is just one of these things not to let pass. Kim through Vision Forum is hosting a giveaway that frankly gives this mom of boys many, many goose bumps.

As these guys of mine have gotten older, the Christmas gift giving has become more complicated. Even with yearly purging of toys no longer played with and costumes no longer worn, I still feel overrun with Legos, MegaBlocks, Star Wars and Knights. I like that the boys play with all of these things, but I'm constantly on the lookout for gifts that provide both boy adventure with educational value.

This is how the giveaway works. I downloaded the Vision Forum catalog and then peered intently at each and every page, minus the girl pages because really, I do not have girls*, and then picked out a gift list valued at $250 or less of Vision Forum published items, marked by a VF logo.

Here is my wish list:

Page 8-9 The Complete R.M. Ballantyne Christian Adventure Library
This 10 volume set combines boy adventure with Christian values in literature. One of the greatest joys of my life is seeing all three of my sons grow into avid readers. This set of books will feed their love of reading like a true feast.

Page 12 Providential Battles I and II
This includes 4 DVDs per set of battles and epic conflicts that changed the world. These DVD discussions are part of my future view for their growing interest in how God works through every event to demonstrate His perfect will.

Page 20 Thoughts for Young Men by J.C. Ryle
J.C. Ryle has greatly influenced my Biblical understanding of God's attributes, counsel and will. I was thrilled to see that Vision Forum is behind producing this book for young men to read this great Puritan's thoughts on holiness before a Holy God.

Page 91 Sabers, Spears & Catapults
The first time my 18 month old nibbled his grilled cheese into the shape of a weapon, I knew that the thrill of velocity and momentum were truly irresistible for the Y chromosome. Whether it's firing their marshmallow gun or going with Daddy to the gun range, how weapons work is interesting to them. This 4 DVD set would be not only informative but entertaining as well.

There's my wish list for the boys. There were many things to choose from in the catalog and narrowing down choices to within the giveaway parameters was tough. But, I can say now that I tried. Maybe later I can post that I won.

*And if I had girls, the list would have been that much harder to decide upon because those dolls and books and DVDs tailored for girls are precious beyond words. Did I mention that I have boys?

  1. Which is why Christmas shopping when you have both genders takes forever! ;-)

(But I tend to agree -- the girls toys are always fun beyond words. Maybe it's because we relate with them more?)
